The Beloved Minneapolis Nightclub First Avenue and Its Ties to Prince

broken image

An accomplished product manager in the greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, Daniel Rich Galinson has served as a national account executive with Solutran since 2001. Outside of the professional environment, Daniel Rich Galinson is a passionate fan of live music who counts First Avenue among his favorite performance venues.

One of the oldest continually operating, independently owned and operated venues in America, First Avenue has been operating from its downtown Minneapolis location on First Avenue North for over 50 years. The venue is dedicated to showcasing diverse artistic expression and contributing to the well-being and vibrancy of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul community.

Over the years, First Avenue has helped launch the careers of local legends such as Husker Du, the Replacements, Soul Asylum, and Lizzo. But it is probably best known as the proving grounds for the young artist Prince. When Prince first played First Avenue in 1981, it was operating under its former name, “Sam’s.” Prince played the venue five more times over the next 3 years as his star rose on the national music scene. He continue to schedule shows at First Avenue throughout the rest of the 1980s and beyond.
